Dr. Salsburg joined Kiwi Pediatrics in 2001 hailing from Connecticut. Liz earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Wellsley College and completed medical school and her pediatrics residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She worked as a registrar at Sydney Children’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia and eventually left her glorious flat overlooking the Pacific Ocean and moved back to the U.S. In 1995 she became Board certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Her first experience in California was as a pediatrician for a private practice in Pleasanton. In the late 90’s, Dr. Salsburg returned to her native New England to practice medicine in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. But in 1999 the wonderful California weather and beautiful scenery soon lured Dr. Salsburg back to the Bay Area. Liz is now a Californian transplant but she will always root for the New York Yankees, buy only Vermont maple syrup, and continue speaking with her native Connecticut accent.
Dr. Salsburg is dedicated to promoting breastfeeding, caring for special needs children, and facilitating pediatric hospice care. She is a former Chairperson of the Department of Pediatrics at Alta Bates and member of the Ob-Gyn Executive Committee and credentialing. She currently chairs the Alta Bates Lactation Excellence committee, is the Division Chief of the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, and is a member of the Children First Medical Group Credentialing Committee. Liz also provides pediatric care at the George Mark Children’s House for children with complex medical needs receiving respite or end-of- life care. In 2017 Dr. Salsburg was named the GOLD award recipient by Berkeley Parents Press for one of the area's best pediatricians.
In her free time, Liz enjoys hiking and biking in Yosemite, traveling with her husband and her children, writing in her journal, and playing the piano.
A PNP or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is a nurse who has completed advanced training in the field of pediatric health care. A PNP holds a Masters Degree in Nursing and has an education that focuses on the health care of infants, children and adolescents. Much like a pediatrician, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners work with patients from infancy to young adulthood, diagnosing illness, conducting exams, and prescribing medication. PNPs focus on the “whole child”, including well child care and guidance for physical, emotional, intellectual, and social aspects of development. PNPs are able to treat acute illnesses as well as chronic illnesses. The pediatricians and PNPs work in collaboration to ensure quality care and access.
The doctors and nurse practitioners at Kiwi Pediatrics support the various medical and nursing schools in the community. We frequently host these students at our offices to help them further their educational goals. From time to time, the provider will have the students assist them by seeing our patients in the exam room and presenting their findings to the doctor/nurse practitioner. This is always followed with a one on one consultation with the provider and the patient. The medical staff will ask the family if they are comfortable with the student seeing their child and, as always, encourage those that are not to please let us know.
